In the awards November series of blog posts, we get to know the brands behind the nominee products of the European Natural Beauty Awards 2023. In this post, we are proud to share more about the Swedish natural cosmetics brand Ljung Of Lapland, as told by the brand:
“My grandmother’s mother lived during the latter part of the 19th century in Norrland. She had a great interest in nature’s herbs and medicinal plants and made tinctures that helped many sick people. She made soaps from birch bark for natural skincare as well.
My interest in nature’s healing plants also began early. All four of my children had severe eczema. When my third child was born, also with severe eczema, we had tried everything possible without results. We then decided to stop using skin creams containing harmful paraffin oils and other strong chemicals that destroy the skin’s ability to stay healthy.
A quote from a famous artist from Sorsele inspired me a lot: “If you are looking for a helping hand, look down at your own shirt sleeves”. And that was exactly what I did. I started making creams with ingredients from nature which I applied to my children’s skin. After just a few weeks, we could see a clear improvement, and I knew I was on the right track.
I gained more insight into the importance of preserving vitamins and enzymes by not heating the food. The same applies to the nutrients we add to our skin. And what we apply to the skin is as important as what we eat.
I now manage my great-grandmother’s legacy through the knowledge of the healing power of plants, and together with my daughter, we continue to develop the production of natural products with a focus on health and the future environment.
The basic idea of Ljung of Lapland is that the inner and outer parts of a human interact. If you feel good inside, it will be visible on the outside. In our Nordic cold climate, we are constantly affected by cold, wind, and low humidity, so dry and sensitive skin issues, as well as eczema at times, can appear as a result.
In our skincare series, the products are created with a focus on providing rich moisture and nourishment to the skin, specially developed for our cold and dry Nordic climate. They are also enriched with bioactive herbs and plant extracts that build up the vitality of the skin and give results that really feel and are visible.
We want to convey and mediate that skincare should be simple. We know that it is possible and that the choice of your skincare products really makes a difference. Investing in a few active products that help the skin’s balance is the best choice for both humans and the environment.
Our products strengthen the skin and help maintain the skin’s own protective barrier and function. This in turn means that we do not have to lubricate ourselves as much and often, and it also slows down the skin’s aging process.
What we love about natural and organic skincare is the properties, feel, and scents of the raw materials, and how they work with the skin’s own function. The choice of fragrances is an important part of the composition of a product, and the fragrances in our products are added with well-composed contents. This means that even those who are very sensitive to odors tolerate the products unusually well.
Above all, our products have lovely scents and they are healthy – made of completely natural vegetable oils from flowers, fruits, berries, and herbs.
