In the awards November series of blog posts, we get to know the brands behind the nominee products of the European Natural Beauty Awards 2023. In this post, we are proud to share more about the Dutch natural cosmetics brand LIV Botanics, as told by the brand:
LIV Botanics brings the very best of nature to your skin, sticking to nature as close as possible. The ingredients are unrefined (not altered, bleached, deodorized, winterized or heavily treated with an akali) and come from organic farming. In addition, the products contain high concentrations of active plant-based ingredients, zero-waste oils (circular) and every product is vegan. In short: better world, better beauty, better you.
Camellia seed oil plays a major role at LIV Botanics. This oil comes from the Camellia flower and is not only used in almost all products, but is also a signature on the beautiful packaging. Camellia seed oil has powerful skin rejuvenating properties, moisturizes, cares for and makes your skin velvety soft. In Asia this oil is an ancient beauty secret.
LIV Botanics originated on a very small scale from Estella’s house. For years she has gathered knowledge and received training before she has developed, tested and refined the formulas down to the smallest details. She produced small batches and naturally gathered an enthusiastic test group around her. Thanks to the feedback from these testers, her own findings and drive to achieve the highest quality, she improved and fine-tuned the formulas for as long as necessary, into what is now LIV Botanics.

The name LIV stands for life in Scandinavian countries, Botanics for the extracts used in the products. In addition, Liv is the name of Estella’s daughter. “When I look at her, I see the future. For her and the generations after her I want a more beautiful, cleaner world. A world in which it’s normal for cosmetics brands to use organic, clean and vegan ingredients, and to understand the importance of sustainable and circular production”.
Why LIV Botanics?
All products are locally produced in Amsterdam. Each and every product is formulated from scratch. The ingredients are sourced mostly locally and in Europe, with a focus on sustainability, ethical sourcing, certified organic and avoiding ingredients that are harmful for the environment.
In addition to being organic, the ingredients are also unprocessed as much as possible, so that all active substances remain intact and do their job optimally
Each product contains actives, whereby a plant-based alternative has been sought that is comparable in terms of efficacy to the often-used synthetic variant, such as retinol, hyaluronic acid, and acmella oleracea (a vegetable ingredient that mimics the effect of botox).
The products are durable, last a long time and 6 out of 7 are waterless. The eye serum has a base of organic aloe vera juice and rose water. All products are also vegan and certified free of micro-plastics.
Sustainable in every aspect. For example, the products are packaged in glass and come in a specially designed box made of paper with Dutch Elephant Grass. This grass grows on marginal land and has an enormous CO2 reduction. This grass can capture more than 4x as many greenhouse gasses per hectare as a forest with trees. The soil on which elephant grass is grown comes back to life.
The beautiful packaging is made without glue (because it may be toxic and not vegan), and is printed inside and out with plant-based ink in collaboration with a sustainable printing house.
From the shipping boxes, the tissue paper, the stickers (without vinyl) on the bottles, everything is eco-friendly and sustainable, right down to the fully compostable tape on those shipping boxes. Every detail has been thought of to keep the footprint as low as possible.
LIV Botanics gives back to nature. She donates 1% of her turnover annually to 1% For The Planet, an organization that is committed to protecting the earth.
